Sunnyside, Washington

At Airfield Estates, we use 100% estate grown fruit to produce well-balanced wines with true varietal characteristics showcasing the subtleties of the terroir. Airfield Estates vineyard is situated in the heart of the Yakima Valley. Nestled along the foothills of the Rattlesnake Mountains, it spans 830 acres and includes over 20 different varietals.

We are firm believers that great wines begin in the vineyard. Airfield Estates has a deeply rooted history that traces back to 1907 when our founder, great-grandfather H. Lloyd Miller, pioneered to the northwest settling in Sunnyside, Washington. By 1920, H. Lloyd had acquired the site where our estate vineyard is located today. At that time, the property did not have access to irrigation water. H. Lloyd met directly with President Roosevelt and acquired the political support necessary to get the Roza Canal Project funded and bring irrigation water to the higher regions of the Yakima Valley.

From 1941-1944 a portion of the property was leased to the Olympia Air Transport Corporation, which constructed a flight school for hundreds of Army Air Corps pilots during World War II. Shortly thereafter, H. Lloyd began converting the site of the airbase into his farm headquarters, Airport Ranch Estates. In 1968, we began planting vinifera wine grapes and soon after began partnering with Chateau Ste. Michelle to sell those grapes.

Our father, Mike Miller, joined the family farm in 1974 and transitioned our farm into what it is today. Mike partnered with his son Marcus, and Daughter Lori, and together in 2005 they founded Airfield Estates Winery, a family business focused on 100% estate grown wines at exceptional values. In 2005, they all joined forces to create Airfield Estates.
